Abbey Rangers vs Knaphill

Abbey Rangers vs Knaphill Youth Team.

Great competitive game, shame about the awful weather. Had to stop shooting on a number of occassions purely because of the amount of rain. Got some great shots as shown below, and was well worth going to shoot, despite the weather!

Yes Club - Royal Geographic Society

A meeting at the Royal geographic Society was held for all members who had participated in a sinai trek. A Youth Expedition Sinai (YES). This was the forming of a new club called the YES club. This would be a club for all participants of sinai expeditions or any further expeditions taking place lead by Mark Gillett and Kevin Priestly. Their have only been two sinai expeditions, so both groups were invited. Being on both expeditions, I knew everybody there and seemed to be the mutual man!

We had a good discussion about the outcomes of the club and what we hope to achieve. Things such as getting money together for the funding and potential future expeditions etc were discussed.

Photos are below.

Byfleet Charity Match

Last week, Byfleet Village Old Boys (O18s) played Byfleet Village U18s in a charity match at Byfleet rec. The chosen charity was Jigsaw4u, raising money for my funds for the desert trek in the sinai. So naturally I came along and watched an enjoyable but very competitive game! It was very much one sided to the O18s, but the U18s had their fare share of goals and glory! The final score was 6-3 to the over 18s, who had re-formed for the game especially. Their was a quick presentation of the trophy and hand shakes exchanged between both teams. Naturally I took plenty pictures so I have posted a few of my favourites below.

Houses Of Parliament celebration - Sinai 08

All of the YES 2008 and their participants were invited to a tour and presentation at the houses or parliament. It was a wet and horrid day to start and everybody began to arrive, some late. We all went through security then met in the presentation room. We then all got our things together and began our tours in two groups. I got told off as i was not allowed to take my camera on the tour so it had to stay behind :-( Nevermind. However the tour was really intresting and worth looking at. We then all went for the presentation. I was the first person to really speak! I did a quick speech and photo presentation. My photos from the trek were in the background whilst I spoke and I pointed a few out.

The presentation went on, different people speaking and telling their tales. We all then recieved special certificates and photo books as participants for the trek it was really nice to accept them. The presentation then came to and end with Macka's video. It was really nice to end on a reflective video and everybody enjoyed it. (the song got stuck in my head all day!) We then went out for a meal at pizza express and had a good chat! A few of us then went out to London for a few hours and returned home safely after an awesome day. Photos from the day out afterwards : (http://www.pbase.com/richardchapman/london&page=2)

40D Impressions and Photos

I have been out and about this past week with my new 40D experimenting and getting to know the camera! Its been fantastic, I have not yet found a fault with it. To me it is perfect.
The kit lens 17-85 IS USM is also a great lens and gives provides great images.

I have a couple of galleries online taken with the new 40D so take a look, feedback would be great.

New Upgrade - Canon Eos 40D

Last week the focusing motor on my fuji s6500fd went, and I was told it would cost more to repair than it is worth. I spent time over the last months looking at upgrading and this was my chance to upgrade for a good reason. However the downside is now I can't sell my fuji and make a small amount out of it! I may try selling it for spare parts on ebay (if anybody needs a fuji s6500fd with a broken motor let me know!)

I bought it this morning around 11am, took it home, charged it up and went out shooting. Its GREAT! Works really well and I am truly enjoying it. It hopefully should help improve my photography and give me some really dynamic images for the next few years!!

Below are some exempler images of the first couple of days of shooting:

London Visit - August 08

I had been wanting to visit London again for a good while. I had a short visit to see Nelson Mandelas 90th Birthday party concert in Hyde Park in June. But on Tuesday I spent a full day sight seeing and enjoying myself! Visting Hyde Park, Leister Square, Covent Garden, Camden Market, Oxford Street, Soho etc etc.

I also, much to my suprise managed to get some nature shots in the parks of coots, ducks and squirrels etc. So its quite a varied gallery!

Youth Expedition Sinai - Photos

I have just finished editing and uploading my photos from the 2008 Youth Expedition Sinai.

To view them please visit this link :

I had an amazing experience! It was well worth going again. Spending two weeks once again in the Sinai Desert gave me a lot of time to think about life and where I want to go. Everybody who went had an amazing time, we all got too know each other really well. We also helped around £40,000 so far for Jigsaw4u, still leading to our £100,000 target. The cultural experience really was a benefit too me as I love to get involved with different culture and learn about the Bedouin ways. Their is loads I can tell but I won't go on! Please email me if you would like to know about anything! rncchapman@gmail.com

Youth Expedition Sinai 2008 - Return

I have just returned from my second crossing of the Sinai Desert in Egypt. Technically I have done it in one year, am I the first British youth to cross it in a year? Who knows?!

I had an amazing time, it was such a great experience, the culture, the desert, the atmosphere etc was all incredible. Words cannot describe my feelings about it. It was very different to last year but equally as good.

I felt personally I got a lot more out of it this year. I had large thoughts about my life and were I want to go.

I will post more about it at a later date along with the photos

Winston Churchill Year 11 Prom

I helped second shoot for Mark Gillett (www.markgillett.blogspot.com) at a school prom last night. What an exciting evening it was! We both started off shooting the arrivals of people arriving in limos etc, Mark then had to go inside and start shooting the formals whilst I continued outside with the arrivals. What a heptic and exciting adventure it was. Parents and friends all swarming to car doors trying to get photos, regardless of me being their! However I finished on around 850 shots and enjoyed the evening thoroughly.

I will post a link within the next couple of days to the photos.

Youth Expedition Sinai 08 Training Weekend #2

I recieved one of the biggest shocks of my life when arriving. Everybody jumped out at me from the food tent, what an opener to a intresting weekend! We all spent the weekend socialising, playing a large amount of rope games and trekking. Again I had to get lost for the search and rescue exercise. It was a nice time for me to get a few snaps of the forest and relax a little bit! Everybody once again got on really well, we did similar walks to the last training weekend; nice places for some nice photos!

I still am short on funds for the expedition so please sponsor me @ my justgiving account (linked in the top right bar)

Only two weeks till we jet off to the Sinai. I can't wait.

YES 08 Starbucks Presentation

After working a long day at Starbucks stores around the county, we all gathered at Starbucks in Wisley in the evening for a presentation. We had been raising awareness and funds at many local Starbucks, selling raffle tickets etc. Starbucks are a big corporate sponsor for us and will be holding events throughout the months to help us raise money for the forthcoming expedition.

The evening was very eventful, emotional and enjoyable. Many people were invitied including the MD of Starbucks for the UK. After about an hour of socialising and enjoying the free coffee we started the presentation. Susan who organised the whole thing, (who wanted no claim to fame for it all) started the evening off. She was the main person on the mic introducing people etc. In turn many people came and spoke about the expedition, including myself. Many tears were shed as memories were recalled by individuals about losing family members. An powerful emotional video including myself was also played. John came up to talk about how the expedition was moving for him and a step forward for the company Txi. He then told us that our expedition would not be televised as companys could not quite grasp it. So the footage he got will be used for a pitch for the next expedition hoping to be televised.

The night ended up with Anne telling us all to take a balloon, write messages on a tag tied to it about a loved one and then let it go outside with three adults. This was a very simple but powerful event. We all then said our goodbyes and departed a great evening.
