Ireland - August 2009

I have just returned from a week in Ireland, the second time this year. This time I spent a week purely in Co. Mayo. I had a brilliant time and felt I documented my time their well with a variety of photos.
This old set of wheels from an old piece of agricultural equipment that was lying around, seemed rather ghostly to me.
This photo was taken only about 100 metres from reaching the summit of the mountain 'Nephin'. I marched all the way up the mountain using my tripod basically as a walking stick, the climb was far harder than that of Mount Sinai...!
And of course the trip wouldn't be complete without a shot of the local livestock. Here was a special bonding moment between the mother and calfe.
I also ventured into the near town of Ballina, where I took a variety of street/travel photography shots looking at local textures and colours.

I again had another very successful trip in Ireland and got many shots I am overly pleased with. To view my updated gallery please click the link : http://www.pbase.com/richardchapman/ireland

Sinai 2009 Photo link

I am back from the Sinai and had an awesome experience. I spent almost two weeks based in the town of Dahab, meaning 'Gold' in Arabic. I love the essence of Dahab and its culture; I have taken many photos about and around Dahab, of its people, streets, colours and textures. I visited the Desert on a number of occasions, including an extremely dark Bedouin Wedding. It was a tremendous occasion and truly an experience I will never forget, with around 3000 Bedouin celebrating seven weddings until 4am. The closest thing to it that I could think of was an a cappella music festival! As it was so dark I couldn't get a single shot without using flash, disturbing the celebrations.
I got many shots of Dahab's Bazar's, with many shop keepers asking you to visit their amazing deals that are just for you only!
This Bedouin Children were so funny, they smiled and just loved the attention I gave them.
The nightlife in Dahab is brilliant for portraits, this particular one is of my friend Tony.
I climbed Mt. Sinai in the dark to watch the Sunrise at 5am. It was truly spectacular and a magnificient view, as shown in the photo.
When the sun peeked over the hills the most fantastic light appeared, I was able to get some portraits of our guide.
I also visited the famous dive site 'the Blue Hole'. A dive site with 80ft walls of coral. I managed to shoot some of the locals diving next to the site.
I also visited the Bedouin part of Dahab, Assalla; on many occasions. I photographed many textures of the town and many portraits of the local people. On a desert trip I also visited the 'White Canyon' leading to the Ain Hudra Oasis. It was a fantastic trip and was great trekking back in the desert.A very skilled calligrapher hand painted on papayrus different ancient egyptian designs and sold them on at a very decent price. I now am the proud owner of two papyrus's.

I had an amazing trip and it was so fantastic to be back in Egypt yet again, I just love the country and it's culture. I have uploaded all my photos at this link : http://www.pbase.com/richardchapman/sinai_2009

Egypt Trip 12th-25th July

I will be returning to Egypt today for the third year in a row. I will be flying from Gatwick to Sharm El Sheik around midday today. Sadly this year I will not be crossing the Sinai Desert but will be making odd trips into it as I just love it so much. I will be spending 2 weeks in the town of Dahab, an hours drive from Sharm El Sheik. I have been stationed here after the 2007 and 08 Youth Expedition Sinai's. It's got to be my favourite travel destination, its so wonderful and cultural; it feels like a second home to me now. I just love the atmosphere of Egypt and really can't wait to return so very soon!

As always I will be taking my cameras along with me and I shall be snapping to my hearts content. I am hoping to really get some in depth shots of the local Bedouin and their daily lives. But who knows what I will return with..!

Winson Prom 09

Mark Gillett invited me along to second shoot with him for the Winston Churchill yr11 Prom again this year; it was a really fun evening. We started off outside with some awesome arrivals. It was a great way to start the evening. Limos, Classic Cars, Lorrys, Stock Cars doing burnouts, Trucks with fireworks strapped to the front and a Ferrari; were all but to name a few.
I then had a go in the studio, it was good fun to play with different set ups and poses and the kids were really imaginative.
Finally I had a blast shooting the disco, playing with all kinds of lighting, flash, exposures etc.
Overall a great night out and I loved covering it.
