Image shown: One of my favourite images from the 2007 trek
This summer I will be returning to the Sinai Desert in Egypt for a second crossing. I completed the Trek in August last year (07) and helped raise £100,000 pounds for the Woking and Sam Beare Hospices Child bereavement services. A team of 9 youths including myself between the ages of 13-18 and a leadership team of 5 all travelled to the Sinai from the UK. We had 6 Bedouin guides, an Egyptian guide, another desert guide and 12 camels. The trip lasted 3 weeks and the trek was 150km for 2 weeks. We spent a further week in the town of Dahab painting 2 rooms in the local Bedouin youth centre with the local Bedouin children.
This year will be similar but many subtle changes have occurred. 13 youths will be going this year between the ages of 12-22. The trip again will last 3 weeks and the crossing will be 150km. We also will be helping to paint more of the youth centre in the last week. We will be leaving on the 2nd of July 08. This year the trek will be for the bereavment charity Jigsaw4u. We are hoping as a team to raise £100,000 that will start a £300,000 project which will open a new office in Woking. Visit Jigsaw4u online: www.jigsaw4u.org.uk. There is also a possibility of a film crew coming along as well, I will keep you posted on this!
